Types of Sedation

While sedation can be administered in lots of different ways , the 4 most common forms of sedation on offer are:

1) Inhalation sedation also known as “laughing gas”, “happy gas”, nitrous, nitrous oxide for more informtion on laughing gas, click here

2) Oral sedation -relaxant pills or a liquid. This is very good if your fear is procedure-specific (e. g. needles, extractions), especially if you know that the fear would still exist in the presence of an empathetic dentist and adequate pain-control

3) Intravenous (IV) sedation-If you don’t want to be aware of what’s happening during a procedure and you want to be “out of it”, IV sedation is the method of choice
Intravenous (IV) sedation is when drugs areadministered into the blood-stream through a vein – that’s what “intravenous” stands for.
